Among the 90 cases, two had returned from abroad, 74 were employees of Jubilant Generics Limited, Nanjangud and their contacts, 10 who attended the Tablighi event in Delhi, two who suffered from Severe Acute Respiratory Illness ( SARI) and another two were from Kerala. Today, the district has only four active cases.
How was it possible?

Team work: Mysuru District Administration, Mysuru city and district Police, Department of Health and Family Welfare, Mysuru City Corporation and and other departments concerned built a strong network to fight the pandemic.

Action Plans: Quick identifying containment areas and buffer zones. In Mysuru, 12 containment areas were mapped and civic authorities worked effectively with strict measures to stop the virus from spreading.

Apart from this, the authorities laid out a detailed road map to seal down the borders. They closed the entry and exit points of the particular area. Instead they allowed single entry-exit point.

They took out a massive disinfection task, identified houses of quarantined and created one exclusive group for communication among themselves. These micro strategies proved effective. Every detail was looked into by the authorities to contain the virus from spreading. For instance, the MCC put dedicated Pourakarmikas with PPE kits on the job of collecting waste. They collected dry, wet and medical waste separately. Besides, MCC encouraged each household to compost wet waste.

Police patrolling was intensified to restrict the movement of vehicles. They worked in two shifts in containment zones.

Health Team: A health team visited each and every house in the containment area and screened people about Covid19 symptoms. Besides, critical health issues were attended to in these areas by providing medical care at people’s doorsteps.

For example, in Nazarbad, two Covid19 cases were identified and declared containment area. Authorities mapped area and borders and collected details of each household and population of the containment area (200 metres) and buffer zone (5 km). In Nazarbad, 1,400 people in 180 houses followed 28 days strict home quarantine, this helped in breaking down the chain of possible spreading.

In Nazarbad, there were two positive cases, 13 suspected cases and 12 were under observation. This helped in averting any casualty. Currently, the area is identified as containment zone and it will be relaxed soon.

The district administration led by Deputy Commissioner Abhiram G Sankar, Police Commissioner Dr Chandragupta, SP C B Ryshyanth and MCC Commissioner Gurudatta Hegde is being lauded for their concerted efforts in containing the spread, fortunately there has been no deaths due to Covid-19.
