1 min read

Mysuru: Teacher’s Day is celebrated every year on September 5 to mark the birth anniversary of Sarvepalli Radhakrishnan.

The day also holds significance for the teachers who will be conferred award in recognition of their service.

However the teachers of Government School at Devalapura have celebrated the day in a novel way by joining the cause of conservation of animal world.

They have adopted a bird and white peacock at Sri Chamarajendra Zoological Gardens (Mysuru Zoo) for a period of one year.

Headmaster Siddaraju B, Science teacher Basavaraju and Eco Club student member Mahadev Swamy handed over the cheque for prescribed amount to zoo and collected the certificate.

The teachers have also resolved to continue to adopt the animals of the zoo from the funds sanctioned by the government for Eco Club activities and funds raised among them, from next year.

If the authorities at every government school emulate the gesture of Devalapura teachers, it will not just help in the conservation of ecology, but also the zoo that solely depends on gate entry fee and funds towards animal donation for maintaining the facility.
