Tanzania returned University of Mysore student tests positive for Omicron! Authorities initiate test for other foreign students

Mysuru: Close on the heels of a nine-year-old girl testing positive for Omicron, one more case was reported in the city on Tuesday. With this the tally has touched two in the district.
A student of University of Mysore who had recently returned from Tanzania is tested for Covid-19 variant and is now under treatment.
Upon arrival at Kempegowda International Airport in Bengaluru a week ago, the student had given samples for testing and the variant was confirmed during genome sequencing.
Following this University authorities have taken precautions by writing to the District Health Officer to conduct tests for foreign returned students and the staff of foreign students hostel.
University of Mysore Registrar R Shivappa said “Currently 300 foreign students are listed for first consignment of Covid test and 25 have students gave their samples on Tuesday.”
