SWR, GM A K Singh inspects Mysuru workshop, unveils 3D painting of Nalwadi Krishnaraja Wadiyar

Mysuru: Ajay Kumar Singh, General Manager, South Western Railway, Hubballi, did annual inspection of the Central Workshop, Ashokapuram here on Friday.

Central Workshop, Ashokapuram of South Western Railway was established in 1924 as a base workshop of the erstwhile Mysore State Railway. The workshop started POH of BG coaches from 1994. With the introduction of LHB coaches on Indian Railways, workshop has been nominated to carry out Shop Shedule-1, Shop Schedule -2 and Shop Schedule -3 Schedules for the LHB coaches from 2012 onwards.

According to Priya Shetty, Divisional Commercial Manager and Senior PRO “Recently the workshop successfully manufactured high speed MEMU motor coach wheel that is fit to run at a speed of 160 kmph. This wheel manufacturing is undertaken for the first time in Indian Railway workshop against M/s Bombardier quality plan”.
Principal Heads of various Departments P Ravi Kumar, PCME, Vipul Kumar, PCE, Kum. Roopa Srinivasan, PFA, Ajay Kumar, PCSTE, G V Narayana Murthy, PCMM, Anil Pavithran, PCCM, M A V Ramanujan, PCSO, Dr Vilas Gunda, PCMD & R S Chouhan, PCSC accompanied GM/SWR for the inspection.

Aparna Garg, Divisional Railway Manger, Mysuru and P Srinivasu, Chief Workshop Manager, Mysuru were also present during the inspection.
Singh inaugurated the Railway Institute (relocated) at the Workshop, where facilities for playing many indoor games like carom, chess, snooker, table tennis and reading rooms are provided.
Sujata Singh, President, SWR Women’s Organisation inaugurated Heritage Pillars at the workshop. These two Heritage Pillars were cast in the workshop in the 1939 for Mysuru State Railway, which was found recently.
To give them a place of pride right at the entrance of the workshop the pillars have been aesthetically erected with two metal insignia emblems of Mysore State Railway (MSR) and Southern Maratha Railway (SMR). A fountain between these two pillars was also inaugurated which will significantly improve the ambience of the workshop and will also inculcate heritage consciousness in the staff.
A 3D painting of the erstwhile Mysuru Maharaja Nalwadi Krishnaraja Wadiyar was also unveiled during the occasion. The speciality of the painting is that painting will be seen looking at the viewer from any angle of viewing.
Mysuru Workshop was established during the reign of Nalwadi Krishnaraja Wadiyar. His many accomplishments resulting in all round development of Mysuru Kingdom, crediting many firsts in India are well documented in a list besides the portrait.
GM/SWR and officers of headquarters visited Nakshatra Vatika (a conceptual Garden) and a nursery garden for small plants developed by the staff from Planning and Progress section. A total of 18 saplings were planted by GM, PHODs, DRM & CWM during the occasion.
The Refusal Yard, Bio Tank Cleaning area, Carriage Body Repair Shop & Paint Shop, LHB Spring Shop and Carriage lift shop were also inspected by the team of officers.
Singh inaugurated the Welding Simulator at BTC. Welding simulator gives virtual training to operate welding tools, which is very essential to activities in Workshop. Five T Electric Overhead Travelling (EOT) crane was commissioned. The 25th High Speed MEMU Motor Coach wheel was rolled out for Bharat Earth Movers Limited (BEML).
Shot Blasting Machine was also inaugurated, followed by Hydraulic Press (8 T capacity) for pressing in/out the primary suspension unit used in LHB bogies.

1) Bogie Repair Shop
2) Air Brake Shop
3) Stores Depot
4) Wheel Shop
5) Machine Shop
6) POH of coaches at AC shop
P Srinivasu, Chief Workshop Manager, Mysuru gave a presentation on the performance and achievement of the Workshop.
Singh also distributed awards to the officers and staff of the Workshop for their performance during the previous year and up to September this year.
He later interacted with members of Rrcognised Trade unions and staff of the workshop.
Singh commended the efforts taken by the workshop in housekeeping and well documented files and records. He also appreciated the performance of Mysuru Workshop in producing Zero en-route coach failures and failure of components within 100 days.
