Sushma Swaraj’s Ballari bond, Varamahalakshmi puja!

1 min read

Ballari: It was exactly 20 years ago, Karnataka, especially Ballari had garnered the attention of whole of the country. Sushma Swaraj, the former union minister and senior BJP leader who passed away on Tuesday, was contesting the elections from Bellary ( ST reserve) Lok Sabha seat against AICC President Sonia Gandhi in 1999. Sushma polled 3,58,550 against Sonia’s 4,14,650 votes. She lost, but did it with grace by putting up a fierceful fight against formidable Sonia.

Since then, she had kept her bond with Ballari, and had been attending Varamahalakshmi puja at the house of B K Srinivasa Murty for some time every year.

Incidentally, three days are left for Varamahalakshmi festival on August 9 and Sushma’s death will definitely create a void among those who had a chance meeting with her during the festival in the city of mines.
