Sunpure celebrates Women’s Day with stress on equal access to health care

Mysuru: South India’s largest edible oil brand Sunpure celebrated Women’s Day by driving home the importance of equal access to healthcare for women.

Sunpure’s Health Campaign in Mysuru included free health check-ups for over 500 women as well as a healthy dialogue on the common challenges and the importance of seeking timely medical care.

Yaduveer Krishnadatta Chamaraja Wadiyar the 27th and present-day titular maharaja of the erstwhile royal family of Mysuru and his wife Trishikha Kumari Wadiyar were the chief guests at the event.
Padma Shree Awardee and environmentalist 110-year-old Saalumarada Thimmakka, also known as Aala Marada Thimmakka, was the guest of honour.
In keeping with UN’s theme for International Women’s Day this year ‘Gender equality today for a sustainable tomorrow’, Sunpure honoured women employees who have completed five years, 10 years, 15 years and above, within the organisation.

Yaduveer Krishnadatta Chamaraja Wadiyar, noted, “My wife Trishikha Kumari and I are happy to be a part of this remarkable event organized by Sunpure. We need such occasions to celebrate women’s achievements,raise awareness about the challenges that they continue to face even today, and come together to find sustainable solutions. I hope that our children will inherit a more equal and kinder world.”
The green crusader, Saalumarada Thimmakka, is a great example of how the smallest steps can make a big difference. Known for planting and tending to 385 banyan trees – in addition to 8000 other trees – along a four-kilometre stretch of highway between Hulikal and Kudur, shewas listed among BBC’s 100 influential and inspirationalwomen in its 2016 edition.
“Life is not fair, particularly to women.As an uneducated girl married to a labourer at a young age,life has not been easy. However, it’s the choices that you make and not your circumstances that define you. When my husband and I realised that we couldn’t have children, we decided to make plants our children. We tended to them with love and care. As we contributed to the environment and humanity, our lives became more enriched – not financially, but spiritually,” said Saalumarada Thimmakka.
