Striving for excellence is one of the fundamental duties: Ashwin D Gowda

Mysuru: Ashwin D Gowda, Managing Director of Karnataka Skill Development Corporation (KSDC) said “striving for excellence should become the utmost priorities of the students in this competitive world.

After inaugurating, UGC sponsored one-day “Skill Development Workshop for Students” organised by the Department of English (UG& PG), in association with IQAC, JSS college of Arts, Commerce &Science Ootyroad, Mysuru on March 21.

In his inaugural address Ashwin D Gowda advised the students “Soft-skills are the need of the hour and students should adapt themselves to the changing demands of the job market. The students should strive for excellence which can be considered as one of the fundamental duties. Students should not only demand for their rights but also be aware of duties and limitations in the job market. Communication and time management should become the core factor of their learning”, he said.

Chief guest Dr Latha K C, Education Officer, UGC SWRO, Bengaluru who happens to be one of the proud alumni of the college opined that as students they should concentrate on their goal, and should not be taken away by the alluring social medias.

She felt that emotional intelligence is the most important aspect of the present competitive world. Students must learn to manage emotion to become successful persons in their respective fields. They should acquire all the required soft skills for a better future, she added.

In his presidential remarks Prof B V Sambashivaiah, Chief Executive said that “students should make use of the opportunities provided through such workshops”.

In his speech he mentioned about the initiatives taken by the Central and State Governments to integrate skill components in higher education under NEP 2020.

He advised the students to make use of those opportunities to improve their overall personality as the ultimate goal of education is to get a better job.

Dr H C Honnappa, Principal welcomed the dignitaries.

Sannidi rendered invocation, Dr Poornima M, Head, Department of English proposed vote of thanks.  Vasumathi P Assistant Professor of English compered the programme.

The inaugural session was followed by five technical sessions.

Dr Dharma Prasad created awareness among the students on ‘Soft-skills for Industry.

In the second technical session Umesh, Senior Principal Consultant, Infosys, Mysuru, created awareness on ‘Current Trends in IT Industry’.

Dr S A Mohankrishna, Dept. of Mechanical Engineering, Vidyavadhaka College of Engineering, spoke on ‘Skills for Shaping and Moulding Students’.

Prof Rajagopal (Retd), The English and Foreign Language University, Hyderabad enlightened the students on ‘Communication Skills’.

In the last session Dr Lancy D’Souza, Dept. of Psychology, Maharaja’s College Mysuru, presented his speech on ‘Effective Study Habits’.
