Bengaluru: As promised in its manifesto, the Congress government on Saturday issued directions to revise some of the content in Kannada and Social Science Textbooks for the students studying in Classes VI to X.

The Karnataka Textbook Society has issued a circular on revision of textbooks of these classes as the textbook committee headed by Rohit Chakrathirtha in the previous BJP government had made changes without the official order of the government. This had led to major controversy forcing the BJP government to relook into its committee.

As per the new revision, significant changes include replacing Keshava Baliram Hegdewar’s ‘Nijavada Adarshapurusha Yaragabeku’ with Shivakotyacharya’s ‘Sukumaraswamy Kathe’. Shathavadhani Dr R Ganesh’s ‘Shreshta Bharatiya Chintanegalu’ will be replaced with Sa Ra Aboobacker’s ‘Yudha’, K T Gatti’s ‘Kalavannu Geddavaru’ to Vijayamala Ranganath’s ‘Blood Group’, P Lakshminarayan Bhat’s ‘Achchariya Imbala’ will be replaced with Dasthagir Allibai’s ‘Urusugalli Bhavaikyathe’. Besides, Chakravarthi Sulibele’s ‘Thayi Bharatiya Amaraputraru’ lesson has been dropped completely. Apart from this, Parampalli Narasimha Aithal’s ‘Bhu Kailasa’ mythological play has been replaced with Thi Tha Sharma, Siddanahalli Krishna Sharma’s translated work Jawahar Lal Nehru’s ‘Magalige Bareda Pathra’. All these changes were made in Kannada textbooks.

As many as 15 new lessons have been added after dropping old ones in both the subjects.
