Chamarajanagar: Deputy Commissioner M R Ravi said ‘Sri Valmiki Ramayana the great epic of the land, is all time relevant”.

Addressing the gathering during Valmiki Jayanti, Ravi also a prolific writer with several works to his credit said ” The characters in the epic and the sequences hold relevance even thousands of years after Saint Valmiki is believed to have penned the tome. Though Ramayana is a vast subject, the political turmoil that takes place for the sake of power is central to the whole happenings”.

However, the younger generation is still away from the influence of great personalities like- Valmiki, Basava, Buddha, Ambedkar to name a few. For them, these great personalities of the land still remain in the book, regretted Ravi.

Referring to the condition of tribals ( as Valmiki was a tribal) in the district, who still remain backward, Ravi said “In Chamarajanagar district alone, 38 per cent of the tribals accounting for a population of 3.5 lakh still remain illiterate. They should be brought to the mainstream of the society”.

Ravi said, unlike USA that has a history of 400 years and Britain with thousand years, India which has several thousands of years of history has produced a highest number of great personalities.
