‘Sports moulds individual to be responsible in society’

Mysuru: It is important to involve in sports irrespective of whether we win or lose. For, it helps us in being fit and teaches teamwork which is important in life, observed Pooja Agarwal, President, of South Western Railway Women’s Welfare Organization, Mysuru Division.

She was addressing students at the valedictory of annual sports day at Lalitha High School, Yadavgiri on Friday.

Appreciating students who took part in the sports, Pooja Agarwal said that the sports apart from teaching discipline, it moulds one to be a responsible youth in the society.

She handed over medals and certificates to over 100 students who participated in individual and team events. Ms Bhandavya, an International Basketball player working with the Indian Railways at Mysuru and the current captain of the Indian Women’s Basketball team was felicitated on this occasion.

Ms Bhadavya speaking on the occasion lamented that these days a lot of importance was given to academics and participating in sports had merely become a hobby. “My advice to youngsters is that sports not only helps in being fit but also teaches many life skills, like working in a team, improvement in our reflexes, application of mental tactics, handling of stress and most importantly sportsmanship, etc.,” she said.

E. Vijaya, Additional. DRM and Vice-President of the school, executive members of the South Western Railway Women’s Welfare Organization, Mysuru Division and the faculty of the school were present.
