The work on building the crib where the idol of infant jesus will be placed to recreate the story of the Lord’s arrival, on the church premises is on. It will begin with midnight mass on December 24.

The landmark cathedral which wears a new look after renovation has added special lighting arrangements as a regular attraction from this year. The illuminated sight of the church, also a prominent heritage structure from 7 PM to 10 PM is a visual treat.

Rev Fr Stanley D’Almeida

In an exclusive chat Rev Fr. Stanley D’ Almeida told Mysoorunews.com, “this year the church has been adorned with special lightings everyday. It is also for the first time and the credit goes to Moon Light Company in Mysuru”.

In the last year, the renovation was on and after work it has been restored to its originality. It has been attracting people from far and wide as in the last two days, with more than 25 various teams of artistes, like dollu kunitha, Kamsale and folk dancers performing to the hilt. It seems the festive season has begun before the arrival of Jesus Christ, with dance teams of the church also performing during the day.

As a part of the celebration various programmes are lined up. Almeida and team will be felicitating labourers and representatives of the firm which successfully completed the task.

Almeida specially thanked the officials of archaeology, heritage and museums, tourism and minority departments who made concerted efforts for renovation. All religious leaders will visit the church on Christmas day, he said.

In view of the visitors safety, there has been increased surveillance with the help of  CCTV cameras. Apart from this, regular security service is in place.

Mysuru is a city known for love, and pray that this festival year will bring peace and wealth with Christ’s blessings to the people, wished Almeida in his Christmas message to the people.
