Soon iconic Rajendra Vilas Palace atop Chamundi Hill to reopen as hotel: Pramoda Devi Wadiyar

Mysuru: The iconic Rajendra Vilas Palace atop Chamundi Hill will soon be reopened as a hotel, with the erstwhile royal family of Mysuru taking up the restoration works of decades old building.

Scion of erstwhile royal family of Mysuru Pramoda Devi wadiyar told media persons on Wednesday “the restoration works of Rajendra Vilas Palace atop Chamundi Hill was halted 25 years ago. Now, the works resumed six weeks ago and is under progress”.

What is the most challenging part is dome works and nearly six workers from Tamil Nadu led by Srikantadatta Narasimharaja Wadiyar Foundation are involved in the task, added Pramoda Devi Wadiyar.

The dome is 20 feet diametre wide and 120 feet high from tbe base of the Palace. We had consulted experts to vet into the stability of the structure and it is completely safe. All the parts of the structure mainly wood and iron pillars will also be restored, said Pramoda Devi Wadiyar.

Previously the late royal scion Srikantadatta Narasimharaja Wadiyar had also undertaken the restoration works at Rajendra Vilas by roping in workers from Rajasthan, but was unable to complete. We will restore all the 22 rooms to develop it as a hotel, asserted Pramoda Devi Wadiyar.

Srikantadatta Narasimharaja Wadiyar Foundation has successfully executed the restoration works of Jaganmohan Place, two portions of the residential wing at Mysuru Palace and another one is under progress. Now, Rajendra Vilas palace works is in addition to that, informed Pramoda Devi Wadiyar.

Rajendra Vilas Palace was constructed during the regime of Nalwadi Krishnaraja Wadiyar. While a small portion was built during the regime of Tenth Chamaraja Wadiyar, said Pramoda Devi Wadiyar.
