New Delhi: Mysuru- Kodagu MP Prathap Singh raised the proposal of any possibilities of bringing second list of cities to be included under Smart Cities Mission and Mysuru stands a chance.
Simha who raised the question during the question hour at Lok Sabha on Thursday said ” Unlike seven other cities listed in the mission from Karnataka, Mysuru missed out in the shortlist, despite being eligible to tap the benefit in all manner.”
We own up the blame of not fully utilising JnNURM funds and the issue surrounding local auditing at MCC from 2007, that deprived us of a slot under Smart Cities Mission, said Simha.
While the other cities like- Bengaluru, Tumakuru, Belagavi, Shivamogga, Davangere, Hubballi- Dharwad and Mangaluru were included, about 817 projects were approved and funds were utilised that changed the look of those cities. Mysuru city deserves to be included in Smart Cities for being ranked number one in Clean Cities survey in the country.
Unfortunately we weren’t able to get funds under Smart City and want to know whether there would be second list of smart cities? asked Simha.
Union Minister for Housing and Urban Affairs Hardeep Singh Puri said “Mysuru was not included because there was a system to be followed to select cities. A system of competitive bidding was announced and all cities who wished to compete were sought specific proposals to be implemented over a period of five years.”
Out of Rs 1721 crore released for Smart Cities in Karnataka, Rs 1563 crore (91 per cent of total funds) is utilised, said Puri.
