SKDRDP launches mechanized farming at ‘Paddy Bowl’ K R Nagar

Mysuru: Sri Kshetra Dharmastala Rural Development Project (SKDRDP) has launched mechanised paddy farming at K R Nagar taluk in the district. K R Nagar taluk is known as ‘Paddy Bowl’ and is one among several taluks identified across the state.

Project Officer Gayatri explained that “In the first stage, 25 farmers are identified and 75 acres of land are selected, while in the second stage around 200 acres of land of 200 farmers will be covered under this method called as ‘Sri Method of Cultivation”.

From plantation to harvest, the machines will be deployed in all levels of cultivating paddy for the benefit of farmers here. It is also for the first time the project has adopted mechanised method. While 15 acres of land are already covered, preparations are being made to cover 50 acres of land.

Following the release of water from KRS dam to Cauvery river, water is being released into Chamaraja right and left bank canals to facilitate farmers to take up paddy cultivation.

For one acre of land seeds will be treated in 80 trays and the saplings will be transplanted after a fortnight. In all 17 machines have been received for the district. The machines will help in addressing the scarcity of labourers.

The project is being implemented under the guidance of Dharmastala Dharmadhikari Dr D Veerendra Heggade and Executive Director Dr L H Manjunath.
