1 min read

Mangaluru: In cafe coffee day founder V G Siddartha’s death, the district administration of Dakshina Kannada seems to have found a reason to prevent suicide bids further more, at Netravati bridge.

Siddhartha had jumped to his death in July from the bridge on Mangaluru- Ullal road. After the incident, four more persons tried to end their lives by jumping into water, luckily one among them survived.

Worried, Mangaluru south MLA D Vedavyas Kamath has discussed with Deputy Commissioner Sasikanth Senthil to think over taking permanent steps.

The height of the retaining walls of the bridge can be increased on both the sides by erecting a transparent wall of fibre with the support of iron railings by five to six feet. Closed circuit TV cameras can be installed at prominent points to keep round the clock vigil.

If the preventive steps are not taken, Netravati bridge will turn into a suicide point.

The youngsters who are vulnerable to such extreme steps should think twice, Kamath has felt.

Kamath has suggested the deputy Commissioner to prepare action plan to take measures to prevent suicide.
