Siddaramaiah to visit violence hit Mangaluru

Bengaluru: A delegation of Congress leaders led by outgoing Opposition Leader in Legislative Assembly Siddaramaiah will be leaving for Mangaluru in Dakshina Kannada afternoon.

Before that, Siddaramaiah will be addressing media at his official residence Kaveri at 12 noon.

Siddaramaiah who had taken a four day break to recuperate from his recent ailment as he had undergone angioplasty, has decided to come out of the sabbatical in the wake of turbulent atmosphere in the coastal town. He is also learnt to have taken the doctor’s consent to leave for Mangaluru. 

Mangaluru was on boil on December 19 and also claimed two lives after the people protesting Citizenship Amendment Act allegedly resorted to violence.

The police opened firing and also shot tear gas shells to control the mob. In the melee, the lives of two men were lost, mostly due to police firing.

Following the incident, police have imposed curfew and internet services have been blocked.

Holiday is declared to educational Insitutions.

However eerie calm prevails over the coast.
