Mysuru: The otherwise calm Vidyaranyapuram and nearby localities in the city are attracting the attention for a wrong reason.

The incident of four armed robbers who gunned down a youth near a jewelry shop close to Chamundivana temple on Monday has threatened the tranquil atmosphere in this locality which is known for peaceful environs.
As the shop- Amrutha Gold and Silver Palace, where the gory incident occurred is located in a mix of commercial and residential area, the traders and residents in the neighbourhood still feel numbed out of shock. The gun sound still echoes in their ears.
Some of the shop owners told Mysoorunews.com “We couldn’t sleep that night. We still feel that gun sound and it was a really horrible incident.”
Nearby shop owner Prakash said “I was busy with work when all of a sudden there was a sound. We came out and saw some chaos and commotion, and a person was bleeding with no one daring to chase the robbers.”
He also recalled that a year ago there was a theft bid at the shop of Dharmendra’s ( the shop keeper who was injured by robbers) brother opposite the shop on same road.
Every time Dharmendra, his wife and children used to attend customers in evening time. On that ill-fated day, there was only Dharmendra in the shop. The gun sound could be heard for more than 300 metres distance. Hearing that, the crowd gathered and later police cleared the crowd, he said.
Vidyaranyapuram main road is a commercial lane and behind the lane is a residential area. The residents are shocked and are expecting more policing on the streets to check recurrence of such incidents.
