Shoot-out case: CID probe likely

Mysuru: The shoot-out case where a person suspected to be running a money exchange racket was killed, on Thursday, will be most likely be taken up by criminal investigation department ( CID).

Vijayanagar police personnel led by Inspector B G Kumar had a face off with a three member gang of suspected money exchange dealers near the outer- ring road junction at Hinkal. One among the suspects identified as Sukhwindra from Punjab, who received bullet on right part of his body below the chest died. His two accomplices escaped.

The inspector had to open fire when the assailants proved too tough to handle and were also armed at the time.

Why CID probe?

Supreme Court has issued 16 guidelines in the matter of investigation of police encounters. This follows a case between PUCL V/s State of Maharashtra. The apex court has succinctly said ‘an independent investigation into the incident/ encounter shall be conducted by the CID or police team of another police station…
