Shettar meets Siddaramaiah, to join the new cabinet?

2 min read

Bengaluru: While calculations are being made on who would join the new Siddaramaiah cabinet, a meeting of Jagadish Shettar and Siddaramaiah on Friday has led to speculations that Shettar may be inducted into the cabinet.

A seasoned politician, Shettar rebelled against BJP – after he was denied of ticket – and unsuccessfully contested on Congress ticket from his turf, Hubballi-Dharwad Central constituency. Shettar was polled 60,775 votes against BJP candidate Mahesh Tenginkayi. After Shettar’s meeting with Siddaramaiah, speculations are rife that the new Congress government is working to have Shettar in their cabinet.

However, Shettar told mediapersons that he met Siddaramaiah to congratulate him on being designated as the next chief minister. “I have not made any demands nor I am an aspirant for any portfolio,” Shettar told mediapersons.

Shettar may be inducted into the government now but there are technical glitches. For, if Shettar joins the government, he may have to be elected as an MLA again or MLC. With no by-election in sight in Karnataka, chances of Shettar contesting again is ruled out. However, he may have to be inducted as MLC.

Besides, there are rumours that Shettar may be fielded against BJP’s Pralhad Joshi in the 2024 Lok Sabha elections. But Shettar has earlier too expressed his desire to be in the State politics. For, he had denied any role at the Centre offered by the BJP in exchange for denial of Assembly ticket to him in the elections.
