Seven years jail, Rs 25,000 fine for raping minor

Mysuru: Judge of special court for POCSO B S Jayashree has awarded seven years of simple imprisonment and Rs 25,000 fine to a man proven guilty of raping a minor girl.

The 21-year-old youth B R Sunil and a juvenile offender had raped the 16 year old girl from Mysuru three years ago.

The victim who had left home for school, changed her mind and boarded a train to Bengaluru. She was commuting between Bengaluru and Mysuru for three days, when another youth named Umesh noticed her.

Umesh befriended the girl and introduced her to Sunil and his minor friend, a boy. The two along with the girl boarded a night train to Bengaluru, alighted near Eleyur and took her to an abandoned house. The two took turns and raped the girl.

The victim’s mother had lodged a complaint at N R station. The police had arrested the accused Sunil and had filed a chargesheet to court.

The chargesheet against juvenile offender was submitted to juvenile justice board.

Another accused Umesh is still absconding.

The judge has awarded a compensation of Rs two lakh to the survivor.

Special public prosecutor B C Shivarudraswamy argued for the prosecution.
