Suttur seer Sri Shivarathri Deshikendra Swamiji presents an idol of Goddess Saraswati to Vice- president of India M Venkaiah Naidu.

In his address at the decennary convocation of JSS Academy of Higher Education and Research (JSS-AHER), Vice- president said that the country is witnessing a troubling transition from communicable diseases to non- communicable lifestyle diseases (NCD).

Suttur seer Sri Shivarathri Deshikendra Swamiji and Vice- president of India M Venkaiah Naidu engaged in a discussion at the convocation ceremony.

According to a World Health Organisation (WHO) Report “Nearly 61 per cent of deaths in the country is due to NCD, with the increase in cardiovascular related deaths by 34.3 per cent from 1990 to 2016, and the increase in diabetes cases by 29.7 per cent’.

When compared to the world average of NCD which is generally found among the people in developing countries at the age of 55 and above, in India it is at the age of 45′. Genetic predisposition, lifestyle changes, pollution and unhealthy food are the reasons.

So, there is a need to establish NCD clinics and private sector must play a key role in their set up. The doctors irrespective of private and public sector should conduct awareness programmes at schools regarding healthy lifestyle, VP said.

Caesarian deliveries ( C- section) is another matter of concern, as according to a study most of them are unnecessary. Such practices are unethical and not expected from the doctors.

Vice- president gave a call to the students to protest such malpractices and develop empathy towards the sufferings.

Suttur seer Sri Shivarathri Deshikendra Swamiji, district minister V Somanna, Chancellor of JSSAHER Dr B Suresh, executive secretary of JSS Mahavidyapeeth Dr C G Betsurmath, Vice- chancellor Dr H Basavanagowda were present at the ceremony.
