Mysuru: Sri Basava Mruthyunjaya Swamiji who has spearhead the movement, seeking reservation of category 2A for Panchamasali Lingayats on Monday said “We are seeking reservation on the basis of Constitutional provisions.”

As a continued effort, starting from August 26 Pratijna Panchayat campaign will be launched at Male Mahadeshwara Temple atop MM Hills in the State. It is to organise the community in each and every district seeking their support towards reservation movement. The campaign will conclude in Basavakalyana on September 30, said Swamiji.

Swamiji said “Lingayat Panchamasali community is also called as Gowda Lingayat in various regions of Karnataka. We are dependent on agriculture for living, but are economically and socially weak. We are not asking for reservation for a competition, but for empowerment though education, under 2A category,” the Swamiji argued.

In January 2021, a padayatra was taken out from Kudalasangama to Bengaluru, which got a huge support. We want to remind the government about September deadline to fulfil our demand.

Recently we met chief minister Basavaraj Bommai also and discussed about reservation. The chief minister instructed backward class commission to collat data from respective deputy commissioners, Swamiji said.

MLAs Basangouda Patil Yatnal and Arvind Bellad and former MLA Vijayanand Kashappanavar and another MLA C S Niranjan Kumar from Mysuru region have also extended their support to the movement.

Former MLA Shivashankar, Mysuru district Gowda Lingayat Mahasabha President Alanahalli Puttaswamy, Cable Mahesh and Mallesh were present.
