Mysuru: Overwhelmed by the response to valedictory of Pancharathna Yatra, JDS leader and former chief minister H D Kumaraswamy said that around 8 lakh people had attended the programme and this has bolstered the party’s morale.

The 90-day Pancharathna Yathra that was taken throughout the State was concluded in Mysuru. The valedictory was held at Eligehundi near Uthanahalli Ring Road on Sunday.

Speaking to mediapersons here on Monday, former chief minister H D Kumaraswamy said that Sunday’s programme has instilled confidence in us. Besides, the presence of JD(S) patriarch H D Deve Gowda was like a blessing to the party that is hoping to gain a majority of seats in the upcoming Assembly election.

He attacked the ruling party, BJP for not doing much for the development of the State. Besides, the BJP leaders are trying to curb the freedom that the Constitution has provided for everyone in the country. He also mocked Congress leader Siddaramaiah reportedly seeking to contest from Varuna and Kolar. “Siddaramaiah may choose two or three constituencies to contest polls. It will not make a major impact on the party’s poll prospects. Besides, the party’s internal fights and lack of confidence to take on BJP will help the JDS fare better,” he observed.

On meeting West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee, Kumaraswamy said that the meeting was a part of strategy to organize regional parties. He further said that Mamata Banerjee may take part in couple of programmes here.
