School admission declines in State due to education minister’s irresponsibility: Malavika Gubbivani

Mysuru: Expressing her dismay at the drop in school admission by 13,000 in Mysuru district, Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) Mysuru District President Malavika Gubbivani has questioned the Education Minister as to what steps he has taken to meet the challenges in time.

“Till last August, there were 1.76 lakh student enrolments in Government Schools in both Primary and Secondary Schools. But this year, due to utter neglect by the Education Department, the strength has gone down to 1.63 lakhs which shows that the strength has gone down by 13,000” said Malavika.

“The Department must investigate the reason for such high decline and take corrective action to increase student strength next year. People were already financially distressed due to Covid-19 and lockdown in previous years and high inflation has come as an added insult to the injury. In such a scenario, the government should have increased the government school strength to provide better quality education to students from poor families. They should be thinking of opening new schools and improving existing ones but our government due to its neglect is doing exactly the opposite” she said.

“Insufficient infrastructure, shortage of teachers and staff, protest by employees and utter disinterest of the department in improving standard of education is pushing the students away from Government Schools. Most of these students come from poor and some middle class families. Many are taking loans to admit their wards to private schools. Those who cannot afford private schools are being denied good quality education. The government is shaking the very foundation of the country by this utter disregard” said Gubbivani, according to Aam Aadmi Party, Mysuru, media coordinator G R Vidyaranya.
