Sangeetha Sugandha Music Festival in city from November 8 to 10

Mysuru: Mysuru, the Cultural Capital of the State is all set to host ‘Sangeetha Sugandha’ Music Festival celebrating Karnataka’s Cultural Heritage from November 8 to 10 at Karnataka State Open University (KSOU), Mysuru.

The three-day event organised by the Ministry of Tourism will highlight Mysuru’s renowned Carnatic music traditions, while bringing to fore Karnataka’s lesser-known tourism destinations, traditional cuisine, handicrafts and textiles.

Regional Director of Tourism Dr Venkatesh addressed the media at Hotel Mayura Hoysala on JLB road here, along with District Tourism Department Joint Director M K Savitha, Kannada and Culture Department Joint Director V N Mallikarjunaswamy, Assistant Director Dr M D Sudarshan, Tourism Department Assistant Director Prabhuswamy, and Assistant Director of Information and Public Relations Department T K Harish.

Cultural Legacy on Display

The festival seeks to honour Mysuru’s historical contributions to Carnatic music, a cultural tradition that has shaped South India’s artistic landscape for centuries. Attendees can expect a blend of traditional and contemporary Carnatic performances, along with insights from museologists and cultural experts. The event promises a platform for both established and emerging artists, aiming to broaden appreciation for this timeless genre among new audiences.

Boost to Tourism and Economy

Mysuru Sangeetha Sugandha is anticipated to draw a diverse audience from India and abroad, reinforcing Mysuru’s status as a prime cultural destination. The event, which aligns with Karnataka’s cultural identity, will offer visitors a deep dive into the region’s art, music and craftsmanship. The festival also serves as an economic boon for the local community, with exhibitions showcasing Mysore’s iconic silk, sandalwood and other crafts providing artisans with visibility and commercial opportunities.

Event Highlights

Venue: The Karnataka State Open University Convocation Hall, chosen for its accessibility and suitability for live performances and exhibitions.

Theme: “Celebrating Dasa Traditions in Carnatic Music,” the festival will feature traditional and modern interpretations of the Dasa heritage, delivering an immersive experience to attendees.

Live Performances: Leading Carnatic musicians and promising new talent will take the stage over the three-day festival, showcasing a rich musical lineup.

Cultural Exhibitions: Visitors can explore displays of Karnataka’s traditional handicrafts, including Mysore silk and sandalwood carvings, in partnership with the Development Commissioner for Handicrafts and Handlooms.

Interactive Workshops: Artists will lead workshops on Carnatic music and regional crafts, engaging attendees of all ages, especially younger audiences.

Food and Craft Stalls: Featuring Karnataka’s authentic flavors, stalls by IHM Bangalore will offer a curated culinary experience, while local artisans will present crafts under the guidance of the Development Commissioner for Handlooms and Handicrafts.

With an estimated 2,000 daily visitors, the Mysuru Sangeetha Sugandha festival promises to celebrate Mysuru’s cultural significance, boost local tourism and provide an enriching experience for all who attend the event.
