Sandalwood trees axed, stolen from Suttur mutt

Mysuru: The unabated crime graph in the city has reached a notch higher with the thieves targeting high security Suttur mutt near the foothills of Chamundi in the city.

In a span of four days from July 10 to 13, the thieves have allegedly cut about eight sandalwood trees grown on the premises of the mutt. It is estimated worth Rs 45,000.

The recent incident came to light on July 13, as it is suspected to have occurred at about 4.45 am. About five to six trees in the garden were allegedly axed and stolen.

The thieves had cut the barbed wire of the compound and have fled with the booty. On July 10 too, during night hours, two trees near Kalyani were cut into logs and stolen.

As the incident first came to light the mutt authorities alerted the security guards and were thinking over lodging a police complaint, but the thieves returned to strike again.
