Rs 40 crore arrears! Journalists want Karnataka to follow Gujarat model

Mandya: Journalists staged a protest on Thursday demanding the State Government to release advertisement arrears to newspapers accrued up to Rs 40 crore in the state.

The journalists led by Mandya District Working Journalists Association President K C Manjunath staged a sit-in in front of the department of information and public relations in the city.

The journalists referred to the recent instance of Gujarat where the State Government has cleared the bills in the form of a special package. Similar measures should be taken here too and adverisements should be released to newspapers to compensate for the losses.

Following the pandemic, there is a dip in revenue for district level, regional and State level dailies that are on media list. Over 5,000 Journalists are working in district and regional level newspapers, which are currently facing a huge financial crisis, the agitating Journalists explained their plight.

Journalists Somashekar Keragodu, Mattikere Jayaram, Janodaya Manjula, B P Prakash and M S Murthy, Chaluvaraju were present.
