Mysuru: Nearly, 35,000 beer cases worth Rs 25 cr of Nanjangud United Breweries Limited, a unit of Kingfisher, has been seized from Excise depots following complaints of contamination.
These beer cases were despatched from Nanjangud unit on July 15. The Excise department has now registered FIR against the unit.
It is learned that, the Excise department during its quality check at the lab found sedimentation declaring it unfit for consumption. The company had supplied the products to Karnataka State Brewerageies Corporation Limited and the fortunately 95 per cent are still stored in depot and only five per cent has been sold.
So far, the Mysuru Excise department has seized 78, 678 boxes of beer and has filed FIR against the breweries.
Mysuru Excise deparent deputy Commissioner A Ravishankar told mediamen that following in-house lab report of contamination, the department has initiated a detailed probe into it.
