Revoke hike in fertiliser price, demands farmer leader Kurbur Shanthakumar

1 min read

Mysuru: Karnataka State Sugarcane Growers Association President Kurbur Shanthakumar on Thursday demanded the government to revoke the sharp hike in the prices of fertilisers.

Shanthakumar in a press release has stated that “The per bag price of DAP has been increased from Rs 1200 to Rs 1900. All these is due to the recent slash in the subsidy on fertilisers from Rs 1.30 lakh crore to Rs 54,000 crore.”

The farmers who are already reeling under the Covid caused crises resulting in the lockdown, are pushed to the brink of uncertainty with no takers for farm produces. The farmers who are caught in the cobweb of loans are pushed to the grave difficulties further.

Both the Union Minister for Chemicals and Fertilisers D V Sadananda Gowda and State Agriculture Minister B C Patil who had promised to sell fertilisers at old rate, have also reneged on their promise, Shanthakumar alleged.

The farmers should teach a fitting lesson to those in power by growing food grains to cater to the needs of their family, said Shanthakumar.
