Renowned Malayalam author, film director M T Vasudevan Nair passes away

Kozhikode: Renowned Malayalam author, director and film writer M T Vasudevan Nair passed away on Wednesday. He was 91.

Vasudevan Nair took his last breath at Baby Memorial Hospital in Kozhikode at approximately 10 pm.

A very popular name in Malayalam literature, Vasudevan Nair leaves behind a legacy of lyrical storytelling that captivated readers for generations.

Popular as MT, he had authored novels, short stories and children’s literature. He was a recipient of Jnanpith award, Padma Bhushan, four national awards and 11 Kerala State Awards for Best Screenplay, to name a few.

He wrote screenplay for over 50 films, that included Murapennu, Panchagni and Oru Vadakkan Veeragatha, considered as classics in Malayalam cinema.

Nair also directed six films including Nirmalyam that won President’s Gold Medal for Best Feature film.

He is survived by his wife Kalamandalam Saraswathi and daughter Aswathy Nair.

Following his death, Kerala State Government has declared two days mourning.
