Renowned journalist, writer ‘Haadu paadu Ramu’ passes away

Mysuru: Renowned journalist and writer TS Ramaswamy, popularly known as ‘Haadu-Paadu’ Ramu, passed away here at the age of 69 on Tuesday.

Ramu, a passionate literary enthusiast, played a significant role in shaping the ‘Haadu Paadu’, a supplementary, in ‘Andolana’ newspaper. The supplementary – published on every Sunday – served as a platform for budding Kannada writers.

He resided at 73, 7th Cross, Saraswathipuram, a place that always used to be brimming with insightful literary activities and even frequented by literary figures. Writer Devanur Mahadeva and many others would often gather there to discuss social and political events of the time.

Rahamath Tarikere, in one of his articles, described Ramu as a sharp critic but an encouraging personality, known for his profound insights into classic Kannada works of Pampa and Kumaravyasa.

Ramu has authored notable works like “Agnisuktha” and “Ramu Kavitegalu,” an anthology of poems.

He remained unmarried and is survived by his family members, including Venugopal, Shylaja, S Tukaram and numerous friends.

Last rites would be held at Harishchandra Ghat, located at the foothills of Chamundi Hills, after 1 pm.
