Renovated Nalwadi Krishnaraja Wadiyar Kalamandir inaugurated in Mandya

Mandya: The renovation works of the Nalwadi Krishnaraja Wadiyar Kalamandir in Mandya city, which was due for repair for several years, has been completed at a total cost of Rs 1.08 crore, said Agriculture and District In-charge Minister N Chaluvarayaswamy.

He inaugurated the renovated Nalwadi Krishnaraja Wadiyar Kalamandira on Wednesday and offered floral tributes to the portrait of Nalwadi.

For many years, the city’s Nalwadi Krishnaraja Wadiyar Kalamandira was not suitable for holding any programmes, and there were other problems including leakage during rains and the arrangement of seats, which hindered its use, said Chaluvarayaswamy.

On the occasion of 87th All India Kannada Sahitya Sammelana being held in the district from December 20 to 22, the renovation works have been completed with the intention of holding cultural programmes in the Kalamandira at the insistence of the artists. 

Mandya MLA P Ravikumar said, Kalamandira was in a dilapidated condition for many years and needed to be repaired. Our government has renovated the Kalamandira to host art, cultural programmes and various plays, which are the breadwinners for many theatre artists. In the second phase, work on seat covers and other arrangements will be carried out at a cost of Rs 25 lakh, he said.

Deputy Commissioner Dr Kumara, Superintendent of Police Mallikarjuna Baladandi, Chief Executive Officer of Zilla Panchayat Shaikh Tanveer Asif, District Coordinator of Kannada Sahitya Parishad Dr Meera Shivalingaiah, Municipal Council President M V Prakash, Vice President Arun Kumar, Assistant Director Kannada and Culture Department Dr B V Nandish, Kannada Sahitya Parishat Honorary Secretary Harsha Pannedoddi and others were present.
