Renovated Jaganmohan Palace Art Gallery to open door

Mysuru: The renovated art gallery at Jaganmohan Palace is all set to reopen soon. The gallery that was closed for renovation works is most likely to be opened for tourists and visitors in July. G M Heritage Matters led by Sharat and team have lent their expertise in infusing a new lease of life to the gallery.
Scion of erstwhile royal family Pramoda Devi Wadiyar said on Wednesday, ‘ the gallery has been reshaped retaining its aesthetic value, the way it was when the palace was built 150 years ago in 1860. The exhibits have been arranged in a systematic manner taking care of the details involved in setting up a museum. About 2000 more artefacts including the oil paintings and antique pieces collected by the royal family are on display here. There are still many, but have

been withheld due to space constraints’.
The significance is about refurbished walls with lime and mortar as it was in use earlier. So also the pillars which have been restored to its days of inception by removing the multi layers of paintings that had covered them. The wooden frames of the door with intricate carvings had also been covered under the layers of painting. It has been removed and one can experience it in the first floor of the gallery’.
Lifestyle wing
To enhance the curiosity of visitors, a new addition has been made to the gallery- lifestyle wing. It gives a peek into the furniture decorated by the kings and queens and their clan earlier, with an array of exhibits like two seater, three seater furnitures made of wood and covered with cushion and shells arranged here’.
Hike in entry fee
Wadiyar said ‘Once the gallery reopens, entry fee will be hiked up to Rs 120 to Rs 150. The fee now is Rs 75 per person. There is no decision yet on hiking the fee for foreign nationals who visit the gallery.
Entry from North
Unlike earlier, a new door to the northern part of the gallery has been instalked from where the visitors shall enter the gallery. A facilitation area has been built for the purpose, where ticket counters will be opened.
