Renaming Princess Road to Siddaramaiah Arogya Marga undermines legacy: Yaduveer Krishnadatta Chamaraja Wadiyar

Mysuru: Named after Princess Krishnajammanni Avaru and Princess Cheluvajammanni Avaru, daughters of Maharaja Chamaraja Wadiyar and Maharani Kempananjammanni, this Princess road (Mysuru- KRS road) is a tribute to their contributions to healthcare, education and community welfare.
Princess Krishnajammanni Avaru’s life was marked by personal tragedy, yet her legacy is monumental. Her family donated 100 acres to establish the Princess Krishnajammanni Sanatorium (PKTB Hospital) for tuberculosis treatment. Her brother, Maharaja Nalvadi Krishnaraja Wadiyar, built the Karanji Mansion in her honor, which later became a government property.
Opened in 1921, the PK Sanatorium laid the foundation for Mysuru’s healthcare system and now houses facilities like Jayadeva Heart Hospital, Trauma Care Centre and Super-Speciality Hospital.
Princess Cheluvajammanni Avaru, another beacon of Mysuru’s royal legacy, is remembered through Cheluvamba Mansion, now home to the CFTRI. Both princesses have left an indelible mark on Mysuru’s identity.
Renaming Princess Road to Siddaramaiah Arogya Marga undermines this legacy. While modern contributions deserve respect, erasing the historical significance of landmarks like Princess Road is a disservice to Mysuru’s heritage. The road stands as a reminder of the Wadiyar family’s monumental efforts in healthcare and community welfare—a history that deserves to be preserved for future generations.
Let’s honour Mysuru’s past and ensure its stories remain intact.
Join the call to preserve Princess Road and protect our cultural heritage. Together, we can keep Mysuru’s history alive and vibrant, appealed Yaduveer Krishnadatta Chamaraja Wadiyar, the sitting MP of Mysuru-Kodagu constituency and the titular head of erstwhile Mysore royal family.
