Religious fervour marks Srikanteshwara Swamy car festival at Nanjangud

Nanjangud: Lakhs of devotees took part in the Rathotsava of Srikanteshwara Swamy at Nanjangud on Wednesday. The annual car festival also popularly known as Dodda Jatra Mahotsava, Nanjundeshwara Rathotsava of Srikanteshwara Swamy temple was back to its glory as it was stopped for two years due to Covid-19 pandemic.

Braving morning chill, the devotees descended on the temple town and celebrated the Pancha Maharathotsava (five car festival) of Srikanteshwara Swamy amidst the chant of vedic hymns and slogans.

During the auspicious Makara Lagna in Brahmi Muhurtha, from 3.30 am, the five flower bedecked chariots carrying the idols of Sri Srikanteshwara, Goddess Parvathy, Sri Ganesha, Sri Chandikeshwara and others were pulled around the temple with equal devotion.

Mysuru Royal family member Pramoda Devi Wadiyar took part in the first puja of the car festival, kick starting the annual religious event.

Also some of the devotees held aloft the portraits of Sandalwood actor Puneeth Rajkumar and raised slogans in favour of their favourite actor.

Deputy Commissioner Dr Bagadi Gowtham, Nanjangud MLA B Harshavardhan and several others took part in the event.
