Reliance Jio Infocom told to cough up Rs 1.10 lakh fine

Mysuru: Mysuru City Corporation has imposed a fine of Rs 1.10 lakh on Reliance Jio Infocom Limited.

The company has been fined at the rate of Rs 10,000 for damaging each of 11 roads in the city, summing up to Rs 1.10 lakh.

According to a press note from MCC Commissioner Gurudatta Hegde who found lapses on the part of the company during the recent inspection on December 16 “The fine has been imposed for damaging the well maintained roads and causing financial loss to the city corporation.

It is found violating the norms while taking up road cutting works for laying optical fibre cables ( OFC) on the following roads- Basavanagudi circle, Kumbarakoppal main road, Hebbal main road, Ballal circle, Ambedkar road, JLB road, Adhichunchanagiri road, Udaya Ravi road, Jayalakshmipuram Gokulam main road, Contour road Gokulam, Kantharaj Urs park road and Gandhinagar.

The works can be continued only on shoulders and footpaths after taking permission from respective zones development officers”.

The Commissioner has pointed that the fine collected in the form of challen should be deposited in the account of respective zonal offices and action should be taken to restore damaged roads.

According to the norms, the Reliance should have taken permission to cut the roads three days in advance. Along with this, the works should be taken up only on road shoulders. However the works are carried on the roads. The boxes are supposed to be installed in a distance of 150 metres according to the condition agreed upon. However the boxes were installed within 90 metres in violation of the norms.

Due to all these works, roads asphalted during Dasara was damaged causing severe inconvenience to the people and to the city Corporation.
