Rangayana Mysuru Director Addanda C Cariappa resigns

Mysuru: Rangayana Mysuru Director Addanda C Cariappa on Sunday resigned from the post of the repertory, citing moral responsibility, after the BJP Government lost power in the State Assembly elections.

In a letter to Secretary of Kannada and Culture Department, Cariappa explained that he has financially strengthened the repertory which has over Rs four crore in its bank account, an achievement when other Rangayanas in the State don’t even have a bank balance of Rs 15 lakh.

Cariappa who was in office for three years and four months, ever since he took charge of the repertory on December 31, 2019, said “When I took charge, Rangayana was not economically stable. Now it has a fixed deposit of Rs 2.09 crore and Rs 1.57 crore in Savings Bank account. The corpus of Rs four crore given by the Government to pay for the retirement benefits of 16 artistes and staff of Rangayana after retirement will earn the interest of Rs 50 lakh.

Cariappa claims that he has made Rangayana financially  stronger, besides spreading its fame across the State and country by holding continuous activities along with artistes. The works of auditoriums and other essential works have been taken care of spending several lakhs of rupees pooled in with the help of philanthropists, MLA funds and other resources. The greenery of Rangayana is well maintained to keep hygieneic atmosphere, Addanda Cariappa explains in his resignation letter.
