Rangayana Chinnara Mela: Revise norms for issuing application, demands social activist

2 min read
Mysuru: The applications were issued for Chinnara Mela, an annual feature of Rangayana theatre repertory on Sunday.

Out of the 300 applications issued, 250 applications are reserved every year for the general public, 10 to 20 applications for Bal Bhavan children and remaining applications for the children of Rangayana employees, stated Arvind Sharma, a social activist.

But most of the Rangayana staff are nearing their retirement age and the applications meant for them are going to others.

Every year, many people wait since midnight for these 250 applications, but most of them are stubborn to admit their children here more than once, but those who are not aware of this matter come late and do not get the application.

The application is issued from 10 am, but within four or five hours, two hundred people would have crossed to obtain applications, and most of them have admitted their children here more than once. Some have admitted their wards here for the fourth or fifth time and wait since wee hours.

Mysuru has a population of over 10 lakhs, in which even children from the rural areas do not have an opportunity. They lack information and hence deprived of the opportunity. Many children in urban and rural areas too are being deprived of this opportunity.

Therefore, we urge Rangayana director that from next year, the norms should be changed:  those who have admitted their children to the Chinna Mela here for more than three years need not apply and if a child has to apply for the second time, there should be a gap of at least one year.

“Otherwise, many children will not get the opportunity and parents will be left disappointed.”

I also urge that, a rule be made stating that “no one should be allowed to wait to collect applications from 1 am and must be allowed to wait in queue at least after 8 am.”
