Rangavalli to stage ‘Tughlaq’ on May 28 & 29 in city

Mysuru: Tughlaq a popular play by late playwright and writer Girish Karnad will be staged on May 28 and 29 at Kiruranga Mandira, Kalamandira premises in the city.

Rangavalli Theatre Troupe is presenting the play that still holds relevance, with a mix of history and politics.

 

Mayasandra Krishna Prasad

Play director Mayasandra Krishna Prasad told media persons on Wednesday “the plot revolves around Mohammed Bin Tughlaq portrayed as mentally ill, but his concern towards communal harmony was misinterpreted. The play has been staged in all Indian languages and is also staged at Pakistan”.

Mysuru based Rangavalli theatre troupe has dedicated itself to good productions. After organising a theatre workshop, the play Tughlaq was zeroed in on to exhibit the talents. The motto behind the play is to give a message- We don’t want any kind of conflicts, Mayasandra Krishna Prasad added.

Manjunath Shastry

Artiste Manjunath Shastry who is enacting the lead role as Tughlaq in the play said “after a gap of two years due to Covid-19 pandemic induced hard times, the troupe is back with a serious play. The play will be staged on May 28 and 29 at Kiruranga Mandira and the entry ticket is fixed at Rs 100. The play begins at 6.30 PM”.

Murali Gundanna

Another artiste Murali Gundanna said “it is a great experience to work with Rangayana senior actor and director Mayasandra Krishna Prasad. Overall we got a new insight got from the play”, added Gundanna who is associated with Rangavalli from 12 years.

Rashmi Narayan

Female artiste Rashmi Narayan said “after Covid-19 pandemic, we (Rangavalli troupe) had staged William Shakespeare’s Mid Summer Nights play. Now, it’s Tughlaq a serious play to attract the attention of theatre buffs”.

Vijay Kumar actor said “politics and history are two important things and this play highlights both and it gives new dimension in these times. Overall the production is good and we welcome theatre enthusiasts to watch the play”.

Raghavendra Boodanur, Hariprasad, Ravi Prasad, Bhargavi Horanturu, Pranav Swaroop, Naveen, Adarsh, Prajwal, Dhanush, Rakshith and Gowtham are a part of the play.

Krishna Kumar Narnakaje is handling lighting, Udith Haritas has scored music, B M Ramachandra will do the makeup, while Manju Kachakki is designing the stage and Manjunath Shastry is the manager.
