Rangavalli Ranga Sambhrama-09: Four-day celebration of Theatre and Culture from November 7

Mysuru: Rangavalli has been in Mysuru’s theater landscape, engaging audiences with continuous, innovative theater productions.
This year, from November 7 to 10, the troupe presents Rangasambhrama-09, a four-day theater festival filled with riveting plays, musical performances, and a showcase of traditional Mysuru bands.
The festival opens with the much-anticipated Natyadevacharite by the Bangalore-based group Sanchaya, the thought-provoking ‘A Friend Beyond the Fence’ by Kalabhi from Mangalore, and concludes with ‘Shivoham’, a dynamic piece by Chronicles of India from Bangalore.
The festival will be inaugurated on November 7 at 6 PM by revered Mysuru theater artist Rameshwari Varma at Kiru Ranganandira in Kalamandira. Islahuddin N S, director of the latest popular film Anna, will attend as chief guest, alongside Kannada and Culture Department’s V N Mallikarjunaswamy and Dr. M D Sudarshan.
Rangayana Director Satish Tiptur will preside, with founding members of Rangavalli joining to celebrate this milestone.
The inauguration will be followed by Ranga Geetanjali, a performance by state award-winning artist Y M Puttannaiah and his team, featuring songs from Mysuru’s theater tradition.

Play: Natyadevacharite by Sanchaya, Bengaluru, Adapted from Molière’s work, this play offers a satire on religious hypocrisy, exploring themes of deceit, faith, and social critique through a 17th-century French Renaissance lens.

Play: A Friend Beyond the Fence by Kalabhi, Mangaluru, Directed by Shravan Heggodu, this poignant drama set in a WWII concentration camp tells the story of two eight-year-old boys, Alex and Ethan, forming an unlikely friendship across barbed wires, symbolized by a baby elephant named “Timbo.” Known for his unique puppet designs, Heggodu offers a powerful look at friendship and innocence amid tragedy.

Play: Shivoham by Chronicles of India, Bengaluru. This mythological-social play interweaves tales of Lord Shiva with those of a modern village character representing the deity. It explores themes of love, rebellion, and the unfulfilled dreams of the marginalized, casting a light on complex societal dynamics. Directed by Ganesh Mandarthi, this piece is both visually and emotionally stirring.
