Rajiv Gandhi’s contributions to the country are immense: R Dhruvanarayana

Mysuru: KPCC Working President R Dhruvanarayana on Saturday said “Nobody can ignore the contributions of former prime minister late Rajiv Gandhi in strengthening the country”.
Dhruvanarayana was speaking during 32nd commemoration day of Rajiv Gandhi organised by Mysuru district (City) Congress Committee at Indira Bhavan in the city.
Rajiv Gandhi vastly contributed to the development of the country. Though he was not in office for long, the achievements speak more. Despite coming into politics by accident he served as the maiden general secretary of AICC and laid a greater emphasis on organisational works of the party.
Rajiv Gandhi who succeeded his mother Indira Gandhi after the latter’s assassination scripted history with the party winning 411 Lok Sabha seats. Congress party unanimously elected him as the prime minister.
Mysuru District Rural Congress Committee President Dr B J Vijaykumar said “Rajiv Gandhi who became the youngest prime minister of the country can be credited with many notable achievements. Most importantly Prevention of Defection Act 1985 to stop party hoppers, revolutionary steps in telecommunication by connecting every nook and corners of the country. Voting power to those aged 18 years and above to name a few”.
