Rain wrath: Normal life thrown out of gear in Coastal districts; people shifted to make-shift safety places

Udupi: Coastal areas in the State continue to bear the brunt of heavy rainfall with several areas inundated with rainwater.
In Udupi, the parking space of Krishna Mutt, Bailakere and Kalsanka areas were marooned and the people had to be shifted to safer areas in boats.
Normal life was thrown out of gear in Mudanimbur, Mathadabettu and Bailakere areas and hundreds of people including kids were seen carrying bags with clothes and essential items to makeshift areas wading through knee-deep water. In several areas, road connectivity has been snapped due to overflowing of drains.

In Karwar, the taluk administration declared a holiday for the second consecutive day as the taluk continues to receive heavy rainfall. On Wednesday, an elderly woman slipped and fell to death after her house was damaged and flooded due to rain in Araga near Karwar. The deceased is identified as Taramathi Naik (75). She, like many other residents of the area, have lost their lands for the Naval base.
Several roads connecting residential areas were inundated forcing the officials concerned to expedite clearance of blockages in the rain.
Besides Karwar, Kumta and Bhatkal continued to suffer the wrath of the rain. The NH 66 in Honnavar town was completely submerged and vehicle-users had a tough time wading through the water.
