Rahul Gandhi gets bail, next hearing on April 13

Surat: A court in Surat granted bail to Congress leader Rahul Gandhi who was convicted and sentenced to two years in jail in a criminal defamation case on Monday. The next hearing will be held on April 13.

Rahul Gandhi was in Surat to file an appeal against the conviction and appealed to the court for a stay on the conviction.

He was accompanied by his sister and Congress leader Priyanka Gandhi, Ashok Gehlot and others.

Meanwhile, BJP leaders termed Rahul Gandhi accompanied by his sister to the court as mere ‘drama’.

Law Minister Kiren Rijiju tweeted that “Rahul Gandhi might be going to Surat to file an appeal. It is not required of a convict to go personally to file an appeal. Generally, no convict goes personally. His going personally with a motley group of leaders and aiedes accompanying is only a drama.”
