Ragi bread! CFTRI working on new technology for International Millets Year 2023

Mysuru: Ahead of International Millets Year 2023, Central Food Technological Research Institute (CFTRI), Mysuru is mulling over gifting “Finger Millet Bread” technology.

CFTRI a premier Institute in the city has to its credit several technologies benefitting thousands of entrepreneurs. CSIR- Central Food Technological Research Institute is a prominent Research institution in india and has provided more than one thousand technologies in Food and nutrition sector.

UNGA took a resolution to observe International Year of Millets in 2023. Even CFTRI also has major plans to boost the production of millets. Using its technology and research, Ragi (Finger Millet) Bread is being prepared.

CFTRI has also got grants from the central government to open Centre of Excellence in Millets particularly Ragi. Ragi Ball making machine is also yet another product of demand from CFTRI.

CFTRI Director Dr Sridevi Annapoorna Singh said “from the ready mix of famous Gulab Jamun to recent Idli, Dosa Batter all originated from CFTRI. We develop technologies and transfer to entrepreneurs, besides providing free technological support”.

So far 14 free technologies have been provided with more than 40,000 downloads in the last four to five years. The annual turnover of private companies involved in marketing technology of Idli and dosa batter has crossed Rs 300 crore, Sridevi Annapoorna Singh said.
