R P Venkatesh Murthy of ‘Janatha Madhyama’ selected for Khadri Shamanna Award

Hassan: Senior journalist R P Venkatesh Murthy has been selected for Khadri Shamanna Award for the present year.

RPV, as Venkatesh Murthy is known as, is the editor of Janatha Madhyama a Kannada daily, published from Hassan.

The award carries a purse of Rs 15,000 and a citation. He is the 28th journalist selected for the award.

Previous year, Dr U B Rajalakshmi of Taranga weekly had been selected for the award. However, the award ceremony was not conducted due to Covid-19 reasons. Hence, the award will be conferred in a ceremony on both the recipients, according to H R Sreesha a trustee of Khadri Shamanna Trust.

RPV who has been in journalism for 45 years since 1976, is also a socialist with deep concerns for farmers and environment.

A native of Rampura in Yasalur hobli in Sakleshpur taluk, RPV is a BSc, LLB holder who had plunged into farmers movement, after he was inspired by JP movement.
