Queen Elizabeth II dies at 96; she reigned for 70 years; Charles III the new King

New Delhi: Queen Elizabeth II the longest surviving monarch of UK royal family died at the age of 96 on Thursday.

Buckingham Palace officially announced
“The Queen died peacefully at Balmoral this afternoon”.

Her eldest son Charles the former Prince of Wales will be the new king and will be known as King Charles III.

She became queen at the age of 25, upon the death of her father King George VI, while she was on tour in Kenya with Prince Philip. She was crowned monarch on June 2, 1953.

A dignified, dependable figure, Elizabeth helped steer the institution into the modern world, stripping away court ritual and making it a more open and accessible institution.

She was the state of head for commonwelath countries.

Elizabeth’s husband Duke of Edinburgh Philip died at the age of 99 in 2021. They were married for 74 years.
