Quarantined get counsellors’ help to stay positive

Mysuru: In these testing times of Covid-19, getting a common cold itself can disturb one’s peace of mind, thanks to the bombardment of loaded information from everywhere.

So, one could well imagine the plight of quarantined persons – be it at home or hospital. They are anxious, depressed and may have suicidal tendencies as they are unsure of what’s happening to them.
Considering this, the State government has pressed counseling for these affected/suspected persons.
“Complete isolation can be depressing. Most of the quarantined persons are not much informed about the virus. They not only fear for their life but also worry if they have infected their near and dear ones,” observed Dr R Rajagopal (seen in the picture in the top) , Associate professor of psychiatry, Mysore Institute of Mental Health.
It can be recalled here that a woman, whose techie-husband had tested positive for Corona virus in Bengaluru, had told a Kannada daily that they were looked down almost akin to untouchables. This is to suffice the pain the infected suffer, mentally.
Isolated patients are given good medical care along with the counselling. “We will be in touch with the doctors treating isolated patients. If we find that patients are depressed like not eating or talking, then we counsel them,” Dr Rajagopal said.
He further elaborated that the patients will be suggestedto make video calls to their family so that they don’t feel isolated. “We also suggest them to have a good sleep, proper diet – rich in Vitamin C, watch movies or on how to use their time productively. We also explain them not to worry about their condition as worrying too much may strain them and further week,” said Dr Rajagopal.
If the patient fails to recover even after counseling, then they are suggested tablets, too, added Dr Rajagopal.
Those who are home quarantined and feeling low, may contact Rajagopal on 96631-62102.
