Chamarajanagar: A python was rescued from the agricultural land attached to Amrithabhoomi at Hondarabalu in the district on Tuesday.

The snake was spotted in a bush by a farmer who informed the forest department. The forest personnel later informed snake rescuer “Champu” ( Manjunath) who rescued the reptile later.

It was later released in BRT Tiger Reserve Forest in the presence of forest personnel.

Amrithabhoomi is the final resting place of Karnataka Rajya Raita Sangha leader Prof M D Nanjunda Swamy popularly known as MDN.

The lands in the surroundings are in forest fringes, and is a known python habitat. Several pythons are rescued there and released deep inside the forest.

During the corresponding period last year, Champu alone had rescued three to four pythons. However, it was the first rescue of python this year.
