Psychology of Sleep-Unlocking Secrets: NIMHANS Prof explains

Mysuru: The Department of Psychology, Christ College, Mysuru organised one day national-level Workshop ‘Psyquest’ on “Psychology of Sleep-Unlocking Secrets” on February 19.
Dr Ravi Yadav, Professor of Neurology, NIMHANS, Bangalore was the Chief Guest for the event.
He gave a detailed overview of sleep, sleep disorders and assessment techniques.
The session began with a prayer song by the college choir and with lighting of the lamp. The resource person was welcomed with a sapling by Rev Fr Jinto Jose, Principal, Christ College, Mysuru.
In the first session Dr Ravi Yadav talked about the mythological origins of sleep. He discussed the brain’s sleep promoting and wake promoting regions as he went on to describe the basic processes underlying sleep. A solid basis for comprehending the physiological mechanisms behind sleep was established by this part.
In the second session Dr Yadav’s talk focused mostly on sleep problems, highlighting their importance and grouping them into various groups. Along with discussing sleep problem evaluation techniques, he introduced participants to tools and questionnaires that measure sleep cycles and patterns. The most prevalent sleep problem, insomnia was given particular attention by Dr Yadav during the forenoon session.
In the afternoon session, Quiz competition was organised to the students of various colleges, based on the theme of the event, which was a interesting and thought provoking session.
Following the quiz, valedictory session was held during which all participants received participation certificates and quiz winners and short film winners received prizes.
Overall, the session was quite interesting and educative, giving attendees a better grasp of psychopathology of sleep and its issues.
Under the direction of its committed staff, the Psychology Department at Christ College effectively offered a setting for education, teamwork, and professional development.
The resource person was honoured with a memento by the Principal, Rev Fr Jinto Jose and the HOD of Psychology Johnson W S. The emcee for the session was Geya Reddy and Gelwin Mathew George of third year BA. Delna of second year BA gave a welcome speech to kick off the workshop.
The chief guest was introduced by Neron Thakor of third year BA. The event concluded with the vote of thanks by Rimal Johnson of first year BA.
