Prof H H Annaiah Gowda’s legacy continues: Over 1,500 books donated to Karnataka State Open University

Mysuru: In a significant contribution to academic resources, Karnataka State Open University (KSOU), Mysore, has received a generous donation of over 1,500 books from the personal collection of the late Prof H H Annaiah Gowda, a distinguished Shakespearean scholar and former Professor of English at the University of Mysore.

The book donation initiative, led by Dr Sunil M V, Faculty – Systems and General Management, SDMIMD, Mysore, was formally handed over to Dr S Srikanth, Chairman, Department of English, KSOU by the family of member of Prof.Annaiah Gowda, Charan.

The collection, reflecting Prof Gowda’s deep expertise in English and Kannada literature, is expected to enrich the university’s library and provide valuable resources for students and researchers.

The project involved meticulous cataloging of the books, with 1,500+ English books designated for KSOU and 500+ Kannada books allocated to the Department of Public Library, Mysore.

The effort was supported by student volunteers from the LIFE (Library Initiative for Education) Committee of SDMIMD, Mysore, and the Department of Library and Information Science (MyDLIS), University of Mysore, under the guidance of Dr N S Harinarayana, Professor, MyDLIS.

The Mysore Literary Association extended its appreciation and financial support for the initiative. The family of Prof H H Annaiah Gowda expressed their desire to contribute his collection to benefit the academic community, believing that his legacy should continue to inspire and aid learners.

Speaking on the occasion, Dr S Srikanth acknowledged the immense value of the donation and thanked the contributors for their thoughtful initiative.

“This collection will be a tremendous asset to our students, especially those in the Department of English. Prof Gowda’s scholarly work has had a lasting impact, and his books will continue to guide future generations,” he remarked.

Dr Sunil M V, who spearheaded the project, highlighted the collaborative effort behind the initiative.

“It was a privilege to ensure that Prof Gowda’s collection reaches the right hands. This initiative was made possible through the dedicated involvement of students and faculty members who worked tirelessly in cataloging and organizing the books,” he stated.

This noble gesture stands as a testament to the importance of preserving and sharing knowledge, ensuring that academic excellence continues to thrive.
